Tropical Storm Isaias forms in Atlantic, could make landfall in U.S.
A tropical system in the Atlantic could become a tropical cyclone on Wednesday.
If it forms, Isaias will be the ninth named storm of the season.
According to WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth, the storm will get close to Puerto Rico Wednesday afternoon. The latest forecast track keeps it at tropical storm strength throughout the week, and it could move into south Florida Sunday morning.
The system could potentially make landfall in Florida. WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner says part of the United States is solidly in the forecast fan.
“We’re really looking at a good chance of of landfall somewhere along the coast of the United States,” said Gardner.
There a few things meteorologist are watching with this storm system:
- Ocean temperatures: tropical wave has enough moisture to keep some organization
- Dry air to the north: might slow development
